HEALTH AND WELLBEING TEST

This is a tool you can use to see if the health and wellbeing strategies you use will be completely effective.

It will outline if you are on the right track, need to improve or need to start implementing a strategy straight away.

Please select one answer for each of the questions below.

Do you have systems in place that help employees cope with work pressure?
We identify and manage cases of excessive pressure or stress before it becomes a problem both strategically and by promoting healthy lifestyles
When people are stressed we help them wherever possible, it is more reactive than proactive
We expect people to find ways of coping with the work they have and the demands placed on them

How do managers and supervisors inspire their teams to improve their health & wellbeing?
In our organisation employees are encouraged and inspired to improve their health and wellbeing by the way managers support their teams and apply the organisations health and wellbeing strategies
Managers and supervisors implement the organisations health and wellbeing strategies, but it seems that people still seem reluctant to take up the help offered and therefore they don't seem to work
Managers and supervisors seem unaware of, or are reluctant to put the organisations support for health and wellbeing into practice

How does your organisation make sure that employees stay energised and switched on by promoting healthy food choices?

We understand that an employees diet can play a major part in how well they perform at work therefore we actively promote healthy eating (e.g. providing healthy food or snack options or offering learning and development about nutrition) as part of a wider health and wellbeing strategy
We encourage people to eat healthy food, but any support we offer is ad hoc and not part of a strategy
It is not up to us to help people choose healthy options. What they eat is up to them and we see no business need to intervene

We recognise that employees that are physically active are at less risk from illness and disease, feel happier in themselves and perform movements easier without aches and pains. We promote this fact by:
Actively promoting opportunities for everyone to be physically active. We offer practical support for all people who want to be active, and provide solutions to include everyone such as exercising during breaks, dance classes, fun games and so on
Providing some support for people to be active, but this is ad hoc and take up only tends to come from certain groups of people such as the ones who already exercise
Accepting that people can choose to exercise outside work if they want, but unless it is a natural requirement for their role, we do not actively promote it

Does your organisation provide health checks to help employees recognise their own health needs and also to set up targeted strategies for successful outcomes?
We offer everyone the opportunity to identify how to maintain or improve their health and wellbeing through health checks and consequent reports. We use the anonymous information to guide our health and wellbeing strategies
We offer health checks or advice to certain members of staff only. This is where the intervention ends as we don't use this information further to inform our organisational planning
We don't offer health checks or advice at work, and feel people should use their GP to identify health issues which affect them

Does your organisation recognise the term presenteeism and understands it's affect on the company's finances?

Presenteeism is a term we are all too aware of and we have health and wellbeing interventions in place to prevent this as much as possible and increase our productivity because of it
We understand the term presenteeism but try to control it by current management strategies
We have not heard about this term before

How are your health and wellbeing initiatives promoted?
We have a protocol that is followed to ensure that all initiatives are communicated from top level manager's right down to the front line workers. This includes staff training, memos and use of varying media
It is up to department heads to relay information about initiatives back to all there staff members
We rely on word of mouth

Do you understand all your employees health and wellbeing needs?
All of our health and wellbeing strategies are based on a needs analysis of our employees, which are consistently reviewed
We put in place health and wellbeing initiatives to support the needs of our employees but these are based mainly on suggestions rather than formal data or research of what people's needs are
Health and Wellbeing initiatives are sometimes run but employees needs are not assessed in any way. The initiatives are ad hoc, have not much control and are unmanaged

Do you consult with your employees on health and wellbeing strategies?
It is company policy to involve all level of employee in our decision making and our health and wellbeing strategies are no different
We try to involve people in decision making but it doesn't always work out
Employees are not generally consulted in decision making

Do you evaluate the impact health and wellbeing strategies are having on your business?
We constantly monitor the time, money and resources invested in our health and wellbeing interventions. We can show how these interventions have improved performance according to the key performance indicators we set
We have an estimate of how well interventions has impacted on performance, but these are based on observations not specific data
The investment in these interventions is not tracked

How is your health and wellbeing strategy linked to your core visions and values?
Our health and wellbeing strategy is very much part of our overall visions and values for the company
The organisation has clear visions and values but we have not linked these to our health and wellbeing interventions
We do not have visions and values set in place
