Before a training plan is developed it is necessary to carry out a Training Needs Analysis (TNA). Due to the fact that printing is a practical job we assess the individual’s knowledge and understanding by questioning and observation of them printing. This enables us to identify the gaps in their knowledge and any bad practices. The manager of the department is also asked to write a few paragraphs on the outcomes they would like to see.

Training is carried out on the clients premises and more importantly on the equipment that is used day to day. Practical training fits into production and is often on production jobs.

The training structure normally combines theoretical seminars and practical training. There are instances when the training delivered is only theoretical or only practical. During the theoretical training testing is carried out at key stages to ensure the delegates have fully understood the topics.

Unless otherwise requested the theory delivered is on a need to know basis, for example a company printing simple single colour injection mouldings does not need to know about four colour process printing. Whereas to a point of sale printer the understanding of four or even six colour is vital.

The practical training is hands on and normally done in conjunction with normal production requirements. If there are specific problem jobs these will be addressed. Best practice is always demonstrated during the practical work.
