SKILLS ASSESSMENT
For companies considering improving the skills of their workforce, a Training Assessment and Training Needs Analysis will include questioning or testing of your staff to establish the levels of technical and practical knowledge and whether training is required.
The initial questions that will be addressed are:
- Is there a need to improve the skills of your staff through training?
- What should the content of the training be?
This is an area that differentiates PDS Consulting from other training providers. As process experts we bring another dimension to skills development.
For training to be effective it must be targeted specifically at the needs of the client. This is particularly the case in the screen and pad printing industry where techniques and process knowledge are traditionally passed from one work colleague to another with minimal formal training. The effect of this is that often the adoption of best practice can decay. The workforce can be applying techniques that are simply wrong and occurrences that destroy profitability are accepted as unavoidable. People are simply conditioned by bad practice. Bringing these practices back on track and making best practice the norm rather than the exception is where the PDS Consulting technical assessment is the best investment you can make.
A Training Needs Analysis will take ½ a day, depending on the size of your workforce. For a small workforce we may involve everybody and for a larger workforce sample the staff. This will involve taking a sample of your operators i.e. 2 each of your best, middle and least skilled. They will be asked to answer a range of technical questions about the process. These questions are randomly selected from our questionnaire database that ensures that a wide range of questions is asked. The printer will get immediate feedback as to how well they have performed as the software automatically calculates the results as a percentage. PDS Consulting are able to analyse all the results and prepare a training schedule that meets the needs of the individuals and the company.

PROCESS ASSESSMENT
Here we examine all aspects of how a facility is performing making our judgements against best practice and industry benchmarks. The assessment takes account of the restrictions or advantages of equipment, environment and resources. The report is an invaluable management tool that can pay huge dividends.
We look at all parts of the process from the initiation of the Works Order through to despatch. Experience has taught us never to make assumptions about any aspect of the operation. It is often the apparently simple factors that have become custom and practice over the years that are haemorrhaging profits from the company.
PDS Consulting provide a different perspective to the management of a unit. Our vast knowledge of the process gathered in over 30 years in the industry enables us to identify the key issues. We become an extension of your management team and the report produced will enable you to address the areas where the greatest gains can be made. Most will be no or low cost.
