CONTROLLING AMBIENT CONDITIONS IN PAD PRINTING

Summer is here and with it comes the “potential” nightmare of pad printing. Temperatures rise, the ink won't transfer from the pad, all you seem to do is “add thinner and stir” the ink. Reject rates increase and productivity goes down. This article will guide you through this nightmare scenario.

If you take nothing else away from this article please remember the viscosity of the ink is not the primary concern it is achieving the correct solvent balance. Users of sealed ink cups do not be fooled this is as important for you as it is for the open ink well users. The key areas are the evaporation of the solvents in the etch, the evaporation of the solvents during the pad travel forward and the evaporation of the solvents during the print stroke.

SMILE FOR TODAY

There is a factory in Northern Minnesota which makes the Tickle Me Elmo toys. The toy laughs when you tickle it under the arms.

Well, Lena is hired at The Tickle Me Elmo factory and she reports for her first day promptly at 8:00 AM.

The next day at 8:45 AM there is a knock at the Personnel Manager's door. The Foreman throws open the door and begins to rant about the new employee.

He complains that she is incredibly slow and the whole line is backing up, putting the entire production line behind schedule.

The Personnel Manager decides he should see this for himself, so the 2 men march down to the factory floor. When they get there the line is so backed up that there are Tickle Me Elmo's all over the factory floor and they're really beginning to pile up.

At the end of the line stands Lena surrounded by mountains of Tickle Me Elmo's. She has a roll of plush red fabric and a huge bag of small marbles.

The 2 men watch in amazement as she cuts a little piece of fabric, wraps it around two marbles and begins to carefully sew the little package between Elmo's legs.

The Personnel Manager bursts into laughter. After several minutes of hysterics he pulls himself together and approaches Lena.

'I'm sorry,' he says to her, barely able to keep a straight face, 'but I think you misunderstood the instructions I gave you Yesterday...'

Your job is to give Elmo “two test tickles”.

A burglar broke into a house and shone his flashlight around looking for valuables.

He picked up a CD player when a strange, disembodied voice echoed from the dark saying: 'Jesus is watching you.'

He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked off his flashlight and froze.

When he heard nothing more he continued. Just as he pulled the stereo out he heard: 'Jesus is watching you.'
Freaked out, he shone his light around frantically. Finally, in the corner of the room his light beam came to rest on a parrot.

'Did you say that?' he hissed at the parrot.

'Yep,' the parrot confessed, then squawked, 'I'm just trying to warn you that he's watching you.'

The burglar relaxed. 'Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?'

'Moses,' replied the bird.

'Moses?' the burglar laughed. 'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?'

The parrot responded, 'The same kind that would name a rottweiler Jesus!!'
